Philippines Billiards Version of American Idol

The 7th leg of the "Search for the New Billiards Idol" was launched last weekend at the AMF-Puyat Billiards Center in Cubao, Quezon City. The contestants will take part in bi-weekly tournaments organized by the Billiards Managers and Players Association of the Philippines, and the new found billiard idol will play against the winners of the previous legs at a special bonus tournament.

Following the success of the previous legs, the opening of the "Search for the New Billiards Idol" 7th leg drew dozens of Philippines leading pool players. Among them, the 16 top ranked players will play at the new BMPAP series of pool tournaments, planned to occur twice a month. The winner will get a chance to compete against Egie Geronimo, the winner of the 6th leg and his fellow billiard idols Jomar de Ocampo, Mike Takayama, and others on June 20-22 at SM City Cebu.

As common in pool tournaments, the desired title is not the only thing in stake, and the First Senate President Manny Villar Cup Billiards Tournament is no different. The players who will capture the top four positions will share a total P20,000 (about 460$) pool, with the winners takes P10,000.

Pleased with their success, the Billiards Managers and Players Association of the Philippines are already contemplating the 8th leg of the billiard tour, planned to be held in Philippines Provinces including Davao, Bacolod, Tuguegarao, Cebu, and General Santos City.
