Derby City Classic – Pool Tournament Coverage

The 10th annual Derby City Classic took place from Thursday, January 3, 2008 to Saturday, January 12, 2008 at the Executive West Hotel in Louisville, Kentucky. The notable pool event, which lasts for nine days and features bank, 9-ball and one pocket competitions, draws every year the world's top pool players. 

The 2008 Derby City Classic was full of events. Last year's all around winner, Efren Reyes of the Philippines, was going through a difficult time defending his title until was finally eliminated from the competition during the one pocket event. American pool player Gabe Owens, who is responsible for Reyes elimination, won the one pocket event after beating almost every top player in the field without losing even a single time. 

Francisco Bustamante of the Philippines won the all around title, was announced this year's Master of the Table and got to take home a check on $20,000. The prestigious 9-ball championship title won by German Ralph Soquet, who was awarded with $17,500 cash prize. It has been the third 9-ball pool winning for Soquet, who'd also won the same title back in 2006 and 2004.
