Billiard Stance

The stance in billiard is one of the most significant fundamentals of the game. In one line, your billiard stance has to be solid, comfortable and lined up with the shot. More extensively, the cue stick must be gripped correctly, your shooting arm (usually your right, unless you are lefty) fixed to your side and lined up with the cue while your head is placed to the side of the shot (again, depending on your orientation).

How can you create a correct billiard stance without hurting your back, or worse, mess up your shots? Follow this step to step guide to the ultimate stance in billiard:

Billiards Stance – How to

  1. Lay the cue along the line of the shot
  2. Set your shooting arm close to the side of your body.
  3. Move your head a bit to the side of the shooting arm above the line of the shot. Note that your head should be placed comfortably in the middle of your body so you can have a perfect view of the table.
  4. Move your left foot forward (if you shoot with your left hand, then move your right foot forward) and then bend it down.
  5. Your shooting arm is the only part of the body that moves while shooting; your head and body must be very firm yet flexible to some extent.

Billiard Stance Tips

  • Don't stay too far from the shot so you will have to stretch your right hand to shoot. On the other hand, getting too close to the shot would limit the scope of your movement.
  • Don't place right above the cue with your head in the middle of the shot. In this manner, once you'll bend down, your cue most likely to point to the side of the object ball and then miss the shot.
