9-Ball Pool Movie Coming Soon

A new pool movie is currently in production. Directed by Anthony Palma, the movie titled "9-Ball" will tell the story of a young woman who struggles to get away from her pool hustling destiny in favor of the Women’s World 9 Ball Championship. The cast includes Jennifer Barretta as the ambitious 9-ball pool player as well as some of the world's leading 9-ball pool champions such as Efren Reyes, Francisco Bustamante, and Rubilen Amit.

In the not so far past, pool movies have had a benefactor influence on the popularity of the sports. Movies such as The Hustler from the early 1960s and The Color of Money from mid 1980s are known for reviving the 500 years old game. Can "9-Ball" infuse fresh blood to the 9-ball Women Championship? Too soon to tell, since the the principal photography of the movie are expected to begin by June 15, 2008.

In "9-Ball" as in past pool movies, contemporary pool players will be making cameo roles and/or will serving as technical advisors. Efren Reyes, Francisco Bustamante and Rubilen Amit have already confirmed their participation in the produced film, while number 1 ranked women's billiard player Karin Corr and World Champion 9-Ball player Julie Kelly have contributed their experience and knowledge to the writing of the script. The movie director, screenwriter and co-producer Anthony Palma stated: "I want "9-Ball" to show pool as the great sport it is and what better way to do that then have real life World Champions in the movie… It is a honor, and privilege to have these three great pool players now part of the cast of '9-Ball'."
